Tour

The Tour de France started today. Looking forward to 3 weeks filled with cycling. Today 70+ people handed in their fantasy team at my parents home where we always sit and discuss before the first stage. Tonight 9 of us had an auction at my home. Great fun with plenty of laughter. Cancellara was a nice surprise today.

14 days from now I will interrupt my visit to my students to stand on a mountain in the Pyrenees and watch my heroes go past.

I love this time of the year.

Highlights

I'll be hoping to catch the highlights on channel 4, they used to have 2 programmes a day dedicated to the Tour de France but now it's on satellite tv.

Plenty of great information can be found at:

But it does not beat watching it yourself I have to admit.

Thanks for the link, just checked the tv schedule and there are no highlights on any terrestrial tv programmes. Maybe i'll have to make use of my parents being away for 2 weeks and just watch it live on satellite tv.

It certainly is worth watching. I would have volunteered to miss all of Euro 2004 for one mountain stage in the Tour!

Dissapointed

I've been fairly dissapointed with Euro 2004, the best game was the Czechoslovakia V Holland game where the Czechs won 3-2.

I like the tactical side of the Tour de France where team mates help each other and push each other just to gain a few seconds here and there.

I was quite impressed with the group stages, happy to see teams like Germany and Italy fly out. In the end it's a shame a team that was very fit can still win against more skilfull teams.

There is so much heroism in the Tour, it is the greatest sports event in the world.

good times indeed :D

you going to the climbing time trial at Alpe d'Huez too?

[identity profile] gerbie.livejournal.com 2004-07-05 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Alpe D'Huez is a funfair, imho there are way too many fans there that are not real cycling fans. For work I'll be in north Spain and in the south of France, hence the Pyrenees are a logical choice.
