Fantasy sports update
Jun. 5th, 2001 11:45 pmYahoo:
NBA: I did brilliant all season, led from the second day on, had a landslide lead. With some injuries I had a dip, but still managed to maintain my position. Then at the end of the season I had used up all my allocated matches. The others came close and a couple of days before the end of the season I was overtaken. Finished third. Guttered!
Premiership Football: Started the season really well, 114th in total from 200.000+ Profited from picking up Hasselbaink and Barthez cheap, could afford Henry as well, made the mistake to sell Pires, who I rebought for much more. Ended 1300-something, not bad, top 1%, won a private league of 3 to go with it and was second in a different one. Content.
NHL: Have to admit, I do not know much about this sport. Still was 4th most of the season in my league and ended 3rd. Didn't know any of my players, so can't complain about the outcome. Satisfied.
NFL: Another sport I don't know anything about. Head to head league. Was a contender for a play-off spot until late season, ended in the losers play-offs, final result 6th or 7th out of 12. Did win my match against the final winner though. Luck.
Golf: Haven't followed enough, haven't got a clue where I stand at the moment.
College Basketball: Gambling, as non-american I've got a major disadvantage. Started a league for people who didn't know what they were doing, the 'no clue league' and was last in that one for a while, overtook one of them in the end. 13th out of 14. Silly.
Racing: Don't even know who races or if it is nascar or other racing. Think I had Earnhardt in my team. Isn't he dead now? I probably jinxed him by picking him. No clue.
Extreme football: Another strange system with confidence points. As if I bother seriously. Had one round where I predicted all 4 winners correct. Could as well have flipped a coin.
MLB: My major interest at the moment. The fact that I don't have enough computertime wrecks itself big time. Australian media aren't big on this one either. Was 2nd in the first week of the season (led one day even), but have fallen back to 7th, just today I've sneaked back in to the top half. Delgado and Mondesi could help me with a few more HR, my starting pitchers could do better. Urbina gets saves but with a terrible ERA. Need a good catcher. Might as well give up. Hopefully can dedicate my time to second half league a bit more. Disappointed.
MLS: Picked 2 of my all time favorites, Stoichkov and Valderrama and decided to make it a thematic team, all players with a latino background. Was in the top 10% for a bit, think I've dropped a bit the last weeks, though I haven't checked. Indifferent.
Sportdreams:
Eerste divisie pick em: Top 500 from the Netherlands, even though my guesses for the whole season were completed in two sessions. Won my sub-league. Lucky.
Eredivisie pick-em: As previous, though I'm not sure about my final ranking.
Champions league, Eredivisie fantasy teams: Crap and noc lue what happened after december.
Hockey: Field hockey in the Netherlands. I can't remember why I bothered to participate.
Tennis: Started the season well with Rusedski, Federer and Ferrero picking up a lot of points for me, but haven't got the time to review my team every week, as the top 100 does. Still reasonable, top 10% I believe, but no chance of progress.
Cyclosim:
Cyclocross: Made some bad choices, not up where I should be therefore, though did win the most points at the world championships and if my memory serves me well, ended in the top 10 through that. Happy.
World cup: Difficult choices. Miscalculated the values apparently, but a fellow competitior helped me by pointing that out to the organiser. Was 4th at some point, though have fallen back since. Sub-top I'd say, could be lucky with the autumn classics still to come.
Giro D'Italia: huge disaster. No time to find the participants, no time to consider a reasonable team. After the first week I overtook 2 of the players. Am now 67 out of 70. Two of my surprise inclusions won a stage though, so I might climb a bit more. Not that it matters.
Smallworld:
NBA: 7th out of 20.
MLB: At the moment 10th out of 20.
Both of them are one offs, complete and don't bother to really manage.
