Nick Hornby – Otherwise pandemonium (05-067)

This was the last book I finished in 2005. Not very difficult, as it is only a little book with 2 stories, in the series published by Penguin for its 70th anniversary. Hornby’s first two books were books for men who refused to grow up. He developed into a great author though, everything he does nowadays automatically turns into gold, every novel becomes a book, every book a bestseller. I enjoy reading his books, I either recognise something or something makes me think, no books excluded.
This little book contains two stories, both fun to read. The first one is about a teenage boy who tells us how he scored for the first time. On the first page he gives us this fact, then he uses the rest of the story how things went as they did. Funny perspective, nice development, great ending.
The second one is a bit more shocking. A mother finds out her son plays in a porn movie. I am sure not exactly what a mother is hoping for in life. And even if it should happen, then you’d still not want to know about it. And even if you should know it, watching the movie is probably even worse. Exactly that is what happens.
2 great short stories. Hornby’s reputation is still in tact.
