Neil Finn wrote one of the best songs I know. I think it can easily be described as the best song the Beatles never wrote. A lot of you might not know him, but he was in Split Enz. , later in Crowded House and since made a few solo albums. To me he's one of those artists who never gets a hardcore following, but is appreciated by a lot of people. I for me, never realised how good he actually was, until I started to think about the good songs he wrote. His colleagues apparently do know the secret: in Auckland, near his hometown on the north island of New Zealand he did a few concerts with a band consisting of Johnny Marr, two Radiohead members, Eddie Vedder and other celebrities. He will tour more, unfortunately I will have left Perth by the time he gets here. If you have the chance, GO, you won't regret it. The words to the song mentioned before are here:

Into temptation - Crowded house (Neil Finn)

You opened up your door
I couldn't believe my luck
You in your new blue dress
Taking away my breath
The cradle is soft and warm
Couldn't do me no harm
You're showing me how to give

Into temptation
Knowing full well the earth will rebel
Into temptation
In a muddle of nervous words

The guilty get no sleep
In the last slow hours of morning
Experience is cheap
I should have listened to the warning

but the cradle is soft and warm...

Into temptation
Knowing full well the earth will rebel
Into your wide open arms
No way to break this spell

Once in a while I look at my user info, scratch some interests, add others. See if my LJ-friends still call me friends. Check how often I have posted. As if it matters. See how I can write friends-only posts, but never seem to find the information on that. One day I read a new name in the list. Someone named me as a friend. Fairly new experience, mostly I find somebody, put them on my list and then they return the favour.

the_pheonix is the one. I read his journal, interesting story on his youth. I added him to my list and don't regret it. His journal is very time consuming, but extremely worthwhile. His entries read like he's talking to you, and I mean that literally, hardly any punctuation, words written as pronounced, who cares about grammar. He never starts a new paragraph, but it fits his style. He is going trhough a hard time and seems somehow he's using LJ semi-therapeutic, what he writes is deeper than most people dare to do, his soul is on the screen for anybody to read. There are plenty of people here in LJ-land who open up, but I haven't seen anyone doing it as touching as the_pheonix. Reading his last entries he's nowhere near rising from the flames yet, but let's hope he will. He's disabled the 'comment'-option, so there's no possibility to react, but perhaps this way I can show that I 'enjoy' reading his misery, choice of words might not be appropriate there actually. Anyway, the_pheonix, I hope you're doing okay, happy birthday and keep writing. Everybody else: go and read.

Finally, wednesday I arrived at the Post Office to find an envelope with my name on it had arrived from Sydney. My new passport. I got my old one back as well, which firstly is usefull as it has my visa for Australia in it, so I can get out of the country, but more importantly it is a journal of my journey, with more than 30 stamps in it by now. According to the note with it, it was ready when I phoned last thursday. Why the f@#$ did she tell me the whole crap-story about the procedure taking 3 weeks at least and how busy they were. Possibly the end of next week. Talk about defending office procedures..

Anyway, I immediately went out and changed my flight and could leave the very next day. Thursday night I will be on Bali. Hoorah, I can travel again. 3 weeks of Perth was too much of a good thing. Sorry LJ-land, you won't see me much the coming weeks, but I'll post my newsletters as soon as I can.
