To prepare myself for the upcoming Tour de France I bought the latest collection by Peter Winnen. A former pro-cyclist he is now known for his columns and short stories that get published in several papers and magazines. This, his third, book is a collection of them. His columns are short and sometimes sharp. He has a good feeling for several sports and especially the psyche behind it. This makes for interesting reading. Not always the same quality, but interesting nonetheless. His stories are all page twisters. Mostly fictional, some of his insights must have come during his career as a pro, some of the cycling stories give a nice view behind the scenes of the strange world of cycling, the mysterious gets a little less mysterious, though on the other hand he is such a romantic that, deliberate or not, he even adds to the myths. Very nice to see that he has found a nice pass time, after his professional career.
