7th in LJ's league, winning the consolation bracket. Not bad, after a strong second half I came close to making the winner's bracket, though I didn't deserve to be there.
2nd in my Yahoo roto-league. Again a strong ending to the season, came from 4th, looking very well at the number of games used, came 4 points short for winning the league. Content anyway.
And finally: WINNER in my Yahoo hth-league. 3 of us were leading most of the season, winning most weeks easily (6-3 at least) and only beating each other whenever we had to play amonst ourselves. Luckily just managed 2nd place, so only 2 play off matches. Semi's: easy 8-1 win over number 3, then against the surprise number 4 who somehow managed to beat the end of season leaders. Again a clear victory: 8-1 for me, at some point I was even leading 9-0. So next year I'll be playing a winners league!
Fanatics: is there a winners league for winners of the winners leagues the year after this?

Dutch politics for outsiders (6)

Perhaps what I will be writing here now doesn’t exactly fit under the header, but it is about politics and I am Dutch, so it’ll have to do. It will be, by far, my most opinionated piece in this series up until today, just warning you in advance.
Apparently several people still think a referendum is something good. Power to the people, direct democracy, no backbenchers deciding for the man in the street, plenty of pros. I will tell you why it is not a good idea.

Extra game
Apr. 21st, 2005 10:31 pmNot only on sunday, this time we had a game on thursday night as well. We played away to the most unsympathetic team in our league. I remember that from the home match we lost against them, it was confirmed tonight. With their own referee giving them plenty of free kicks during the first half and our own defence playing crap, we were 4-1 down at halftime.
Wherever you play, it is common courtesy to arrange tea at half time for both your own team as the opponents. Tonight we were waiting, but never got any tea. One of our subs went to find out, noticed that the home team got some bottles of lemonade, we got nothing. Not even the decency to say that there wasn't any tea, no apology, nothing. We went to the pitch at least 5 minutes late and played a good second half.
We put them back into their own half and created plenty of chances. I scored one and gave two assists. 4-4 and had the referee not ended the game exactly on time, where several minutes of stoppage time were logical, we would have won for sure. Yet, still a point from a match where we were 4-1 down.
