Managed a nine day streak of postings here, something very rare for me. But I've been very busy the last few days (work especially), tonight I didn't manage. Nevermind. I can still post now.

Petrol is getting very expensive these days, apparently the prizes are highest in my country at the moment (€1,55 per liter). This will continue as well, with oil-prizes higher every day.

I try to imagine having to work at a petrol station in the Amazon river. The fourth downflow from Manaus is this Texaco station. How many boats will fill up every day?

Derek Hansen – Lunch with the generals (05-036)

In Leichhart, Sydney, in an Italian restaurant, every week four men gather. They tell each other stories. In the meantime they enjoy the delicious food. They hardly know each other, apart from their love for fine cuisine and good stories.

Then one of them, a blind former Argentinean, starts a story that last 6 weeks. It might have an autobiographical content, as a refugee from Buenos Aires plays a lead role in this story. The other main character is a half Dutch, half English girl, born in Indonesia. Fate has them bump into each other in Sydney.

The story fills the other three with doubts about their friend, but in the mean time they do enjoy the history.

Great book, much better than I had anticipated.
