Volcanoes are something beyound men's grasp. A natural force that cannot be tamed. Yet they are high enough to be like any other mountain, snow on top, people can ski. Standing near the top of the Etna on Sicily, it is still weird to think that this far south one can ski. That with the heat visible (smoke in the distance), the mountain can still be white. That even in May, there is over a meter snow next to the track we're walking.
I like the contrast. The black volcanic dust. The leftover snow from the winter. Again I realise that the world is much bigger than any single person.
