Second look (36)

Christmas day 2000. Canberra seems empty. Everyone is celebrating with their family. I roam the deserted streets on my own, the sun is punishing me. Opposite the parliament I bump into this shed. The aboriginal embassy. Nobody is there, but the door is open. I find walls, even ceilings covered with posters, newspaper clippings and pamphlets. I read for ages, uninterrupted. I learn about the history of oppression. I leave the embassy as a different person.
