Honduras always was a banana republic. In the literary sense of the world. They exported bananas. Until they lost the markey somehow. The country went bankrupt, nobody needed their fruit anymore. On the coast one can still see plenty of signs of better times. The museum in Trujillo is great. But this picture sums it up best. The peer in La Ceiba is now a fishing spot for those without food and without money. Where decades ago many train loaded the bananas into boats, now the peer is almost falling apart. In most countries one wouldn't be allowed to come near to it even, though in Honduras that doesn't seem to matter to most. Past glory.
