One of the greatest characters ever written is Adrian Mole. Decades ago Sue Townsend introduced a weird teenager to the world, Adrian Mole, then aged 13 ¾. Now, several books later, Adrian is a man heading towards middle age, facing life at its fullest. Yet he still remains the same uncertain teenager with a crush on his school love, Pandora. She is an MP by now; he is working in a book store. He knows she will never come back, so he gets on with his life. Somehow he seems to be heading towards a marriage with Marigold, even though he is in love with her sister Daisy. He is the last person in Britain who believes Tony Blair without a trace of doubt.

Adrian’s diary is a classic. Swans who can break a man’s arm, book clubs, his parents moving to a shed, his new apartment, his children outside Britain, it all shows the reader the absurdity that is his life.

Excellent book!
