Last week I put some codes up for grabs. 3 of them were taken within a couple of days. Now, a week later, the three of them have combined for 1 post, 1 word. That is one letter each in a week time. I feel reluctant to give out more codes, even though I have plenty. Why do people beg for a code, if they aren´t going to use their LJ? Why do they take hours finding one, but not minutes to update? Why do I even bother to write a post about this subject?

I quite like that we can spy on the people to whom we give the codes. Someone on a random message board asked for one and never said thanks, I spy on his silly little journal now (ok, being bitchy). Someone from work asked me for one too. I'm sure they know my name and I am VERRRRRRY careful to keep things friends locked.

Anyway, you're not the only one who thinks about things like this.

just thought of something

maybe they are posting friends only or private?

Oh, that's what they were! And I honestly thought that you were just bashing out gibberish on your keyboard to mock some weird 'cult-of-random-numbers/code' proclivity in Net-Types. Hah, I really had no idea. Perhaps that's because I've never been asked for a code; even though as an 'Early Adopter' I have some at my disposal (so I hear, anyway).

So have you actually been pleaded with for codes?

hm.

you're right. i feel guilty. i've been meaning to write erotica for ages, but i don't know when i'm going to get around to it, or why i would need yet another lj. i felt competitive about getting it first. stom...

There is a whole community dedicated to getting codes. So many are eager to get one, I decided to give away a few there, if they´d answer some questions and reward them to who answered best. I even got offended for doing so. Apparently I should just give them up whenever someone tells me.

As an early adopter, now paid user, I´ve got plenty as well. And yes, sometimes people just ask me for one just like that. No idea how they came to my LJ, but they manage.

No, one could still see that through their user info. 1 visible post and then 54 posts in the user info and you get the picture. None of them have done that.

I once wrote a tiny comment: `hello´ in one of them, just to see if they recognised me as the one they got their code from. No reaction.

Good enough for me. Should you only write once a month in it, I know it is in good hands. Thing is, after 3 codes in such a short period, I was just wondering, it has happened before. So please feel no guilt, for my friends, I still have plenty codes available should they want one.

I'm tempted to go to the one guy's journal and comment "YOU'RE WELCOME!" since he never acknowledged in any way that I had given him a code. But I won't, I suppose that would be just as rude as his not saying thank you :P

And you sure do you use it. And look where it got you! If 1 in 10 of the codes I give it have the same impact, it´s all worth it.

Writing in your journal isn't the only thing you can do on lj... If you read frequently, friends lists alone would justify getting an account, imho. That plus this: commenting! Ok, you can do so anonymously, but as slash-dot's name for anon. makes clear ("anonymous coward"), it's sometimes no fun not being identifiable.

I know there are more options. Yet when one looks at the user info and sees that there are no friends defined either and no comments (the number is there), one can but conclude that it has been abandoned.

I can imagine it being fun just to comment, without ever writing yourself, but even then, just a small acknowledgment that you take the code and use it would be nice.
