When I was in Buenos Aires, I decided to pick a movie one night. As I wanted to pick one in English (easier than a whole movie in Spanish, though I did do that later as well), the choice was obvious: Fahrenheit 9/11. I like Michael Moore and I hadn't seen the movie yet.

I'm not discussing the movie here and now (I might later), but I want to recall a moment near the end: a mother of one the soldiers killed in Iraq went to the White House to protest. She spoke to a lady with a very high voice. I recognised her from my own travels:

Since 1980 Conchita sits opposite the White House in Lafayette Park, protesting against war, corruption, nuclear weapons and violence in general. When I spoke to her (december 1999), she had become a bit paranoia imho, though I'd say it is impossible not to become that, if you've been in a park opposite the White House for 20 years, day and night, and had to suffer threats and police violence. I admire her dedication, her perseverance. She does have her own website, if you want to see more pictures and read the whole story:

I like Moore's ideas. I like his dedication. On the other hand, the whole movie suggested a hidden agenda, though his agenda wasn't hidden at all. I think everyone has to see it. I cannot imagine anyone seeing it and voting for Bush next time.

I got the biggest shock when I recognised Conchita. She was talking to a mother, the mother was nearly in tears over her lost son and some weird bitch just barged in and started saying that it's all lies. As if that mother invented a dead son. How insensitive can you get, even if you disagree with someone's ideas..

No problem at all. If I write not to be read, I might as well write in a journal hidden under my bed. Do feel free.

i felt the same way! i was like, you bitch, she just lost her son, her son! and your over there like "well don't blame the goverment, blame al queda." i was like, give your views a rest, she just lost her son for goodness sake. i was like, can people really be like that? that was just cruel hearted.

What did you think of the rest of the movie?

i felt it was one sided. like you heard why everyone hated bush, but you didn't really see why people liked him. but i think it was good to see the soldiers point of view. cause they're the ones pointing they're life on the lines. it educated me though. but now i have to see a
"why i love bush" movie to balance it out. but that bush was a liar. he contradicted himself. like i think he said he loved the soldiers but he like cut back on funding them or something like that.

I don't think the news is that Bush is a liar. Anyone with a bit of common sense knew that. The scary thing is all the power games that do go on behind the screens, what the average joe doesn't notice. And a lot of people are still considering voting for him..
