How to write a review when you are co-author of the book? It was an honour to be asked to do some interviews and write a few articles for a book that is important for the local community. It is a sign that you do belong to the best authors in town. Given the fact that the three others are all professional journalists, me being the only amateur out of the four.
Describing the Rellie is a next to impossible task. It is ununderstandable to anyone from outside my hometown. Factually I can tell that they are the group that form the last group in the parade on sunday afternoon during the local fiestas every year. They have done so for over 50 years, always giving the audience a big show, with odd shaped bicycles, lots of noise, big trucks, inventive language jokes and plenty of dressing up.
In 4 interviews sessions I had to find out funny anecdotes, behind the scenes material and highlights from 51 years of participating in the parade. I enjoyed doing it, though it did cost me plenty of time. All for no payment. In june the book was presented to the sponsors, then sold to the public, over a thousand were printed. Somehow they forgot the authors and I refuse to pay for a book I co-wrote. I did read it at my parents though. Very nice result, the other 3 did a great job and the zillions of pictures make sure nearly everybody who ever participated will want to buy the book. And, trying to look at it as objective as possible, my stories do not stand out negatively, I was fairly satisfied with two of them. That doesn't happen too often. Had some good reactions as well.
In january there is a night somewhere in town, sponsors and authors are invited. Probably to say thank you. Curious if they will actually give me a copy.
