Am I on my own or is it very annoying that some people on P2P programmes only want to download themselves, but do not want to share? What's the use of this software/sites if you do not share. Annoying gits, if I check them (which I do more often nowadays) I always disconnect them.

I always used to share my files as well, but now that my second pc has broken down (which carries all my mp3 on it) and I download from my working one, I have not much to share:) I do set dl-limit to 1 though, cause with my current slow connection otherwise it's simply not working for no one no more.

Just out of curiosity, what programs do you use? I need to re-install mine and am kind of wondering which ones to go use again.

I do limit UL as well, but if nobody shares, there is no use for these programmes.

I have been using Winmx for a while, after the Kazaa Spyware disaster. Last week I also installed Kazaalite, sometimes some mp3's missing from a certain cd do appear on one, not on the other. Collecting is easier with more sources.

Well i agree that the whole idea behind downloading from WinMx is to share, my friend Steve told me about some free software called "LeecHammer" which works alongside WinMx and you can modify settings to automatically disconnect people not sharing files.

It is basically a queue manager and it works beautifully. You can set it to check your queue and it will cancel users depending on your chosen settings. Eg if users don't share then they are automatically cancelled. You can set a file limit, even making any more than one file per user auto cancelled, repeat offenders can be hammered for good. The 2.5MB zip can be downloaded from www.smartgamez.org and so far it is working really well, just thought you may be interested.

Seems brilliant. Saves me from having to check everything myself. I'll have a look. If it is zipped, does that also mean I have to unzip it, hence first get the zip-software?

I forgot to mention that the file does need zipping so you will need some software you should be able to get winzip 8.1 from http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm or by visiting the main http://www.winzip.com website.

I'm still playing with the settings, allowing "generous" users more uploads from me than other people. Generous being anybody sharing over 500 files, i'm just glad i can finally do something about people not sharing.

Then again, one has to start somewhere, I started on zero a couple of years ago (still on Napster) and was happy people were generous, which gave a base of a couple of hundred a month ago. Now with cable internet this boomed and I'm over 1000.
