TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS
Three Americans Die in Friendly Fire Incident

I'm not fluent in English. I learn something every day. My new expression: Friendly fire.

I'm trying to imagine:

"Madam. Sir. We have a message for you, can we come in?"
"O, no, it's our son. Jack, our little boy has died."
"I'm afraid you are right madam.."
Mother starts crying,
"But we want you to know that he died in a friendly fire incident."
"See mother, it isn't always as bad as it seems."

Strange world we live in.

1) As if we're going to think it's less than it was, what with the term "friendly fire". Do they think we don't get it?

'Bob and Joe were playing a lively game of basketball, then engaged in a round of drinks and some friendly fire.'

2) I think if my child/partner/sibling/friend were killed by "friendly fire" I would be even more devastated.
