Banned!

As asked for by some people.

Down below the little introduction I wrote myself when joining the [livejournal.com profile] religion_free community. I thought to point out some things they did carelessly in my opinion. Just a few points. I admit: I got a little cheeky in the end. Still, I was banned without any discussion. Shortest time I was a member of any community. Never been banned before either. Oh well, first for everything. I don't think I want to be a member of any community that is this intolerant..

Hi, just joined,
For years I have ranted against organised religion. Until just now I didn’t realise that there is a community with like minded people. Obviously I had to join.

Still, the first thing I did after joining was reading the user-info. This one worries me.

First:
“Join only if you agree with the interests of this community.”

Why? Why can’t I join if I disagree with the interests? Why can’t I have a discussion with people who I disagree with? Will the community not be extremely boring if only likeminded people always agree with each other? Wrong decision I think.

Second:
“YOU CANNOT BELIEVE IN ANY GOD or SUPERIOR. “

Vague. Any god? Does that include Buddhism, which doesn’t believe in a God as such, that doesn’t even qualify as a religion according to experts? And how do you define superior? And what about those people (millions I believe) who do believe in a God, but are against organised religion?
Again not a strong point.

Thirdly:
”Violaters will be banned” (I ignore the spelling mistake there)

This goes against my beliefs. You don’t ban people who disagree. You convince them. Or you argue with them. You have endless discussions. You end up agreeing to disagree. But banning is exactly putting yourself at the level of organised religion: We decide what is good for you.
No progress made therefore.

Finally:
”We believe in FREEDOM OF SPEECH.”

No you don’t. Three times you’ve proven that you don’t. You directly contradict this in your previous statement. Again: no compliments from me.

In all I can only conclude that if these four points are your basics, you are more or less organising a cult yourself. You pretend to be better than others, but in reality you’re as bad. Perhaps even worse, as a ‘normal’ religious person at least admits his restricted tolerance.

So, unless something is really changing, I do not see myself as a part of this community. You might as well ban me immediately. I’ll be the real protector of freedom of speech!

freedom... or not

It isn't that bad, just curious that they can't stand any critical note at all.

Good for you, man. I had a good laugh about this! Well done.

When I started writing this, I didn't think it was funny. I have to admit that it has taken a comic turn.

That's what they banned you for??? Wow. Of course, you were in direct violation of rule #1. That's funny.

I seriously thought this was a fun community. The idea appeals to me. But what I've seen and read by now, which I should have done before joining obviously, I think it is better they banned me.

That's what you got banned for? And that's what was in their userinfo? *shakes head*
Most of the people I know who are against organized religion hold that opinion because they are more open-minded than their church cares for, not less. I'd say that maybe the community has just had a rough time with trolls and ultra-religious and arguementative members, except for how quickly they banned you, without even discussing it or anything.

I guess I should be proud actually.

I'm not surprised. I saw the userinfo for that group, and I realized how outragous they sound. If you are interested in that sort of thing, there are some more tolerant groups out there.

They changed their user info though. Above quotes are all from their original userinfo! That´s why I reacted. Apparently they do not feel the need to listen to what is being told.
