54. Peter Moore - The wrong way home

Very funny travelbook. This Aussie decided after his time in London, to not fly home, but find his way all the way through Europe and Asia via land and water. Interesting idea and some very funny things happening to him on the way. He is somebody who is not afraid to take the piss out of himself and everybody around him.

He is the kind of travel writer I aspire to be. Do the fun things, try to be different, get off the beaten track, but don't pretend it hasn't been done before. Enjoy solitude in remote area's, but also don't avoid other travellers. he makes some stupid decisions while travelling, but knows that he does so. It takes him a while to get back in Sydney, but at least he's had an experience very few people had before.

One thing that keeps nagging me about travel literature though. Every single book the author gets invited into people's house and offered a bed, a meal and their wife (okay, I made up that last bit), for no obvious reason. I have travelling for 445 days now, and that's only on this journey and this hasn't happened to me yet. How is that possible?

55. Jan Kruis - Jan, Jans en de kinderen deel 22

I bumped into this Dutch comic in the hostel and read it. It actually isn't a very good one. It normally appears in a women's magazine inbetween the knitting and cooking articles. Not really the type of book I choose to read. That has been different though. When I was three years old, my mom used to read out this comic every week for me. I loved it apparently and after she read it twice or three times for me, I remembered the story. On moments I was bored I grapped the magazine and found the page it was on and 'read' it out loud for myself, hugely impressing anybody who saw me do so, even though I didn't realise that people were observing me. They all though that I could read at age 3.

56. Marc Barrowcliff - Girlfriend 44

Interesting title, not a bad book. Bought it at the market in Glebe, found later that it was a reviewer's copy, the sticker was still in it, so somebody made some illegitimate money there. The story is about these two housemates who both fall in love with the same girl and will do anything to get her. She doesn't seem to be able to make her mind up.

Easy read, some funny observations but in the end 100 pages to long and a plot with some weird twists in it, though you can see what'll happen halfway through the book. Not the masterpiece the reviewers claim it to be, though I would read a next novel by him (if there will be one).
