By the way, have I mentioned that this afternoon I took the decision to become an MP in 2011?

I´m not a big fan of the song, but I really like this line.

He just smiled and gave me a veggiemite sandwich.

For ages now I try to get a bit more sleep. Normally I use the weekend to get some extra hours. Somehow my schedule lately has been so full, that I am happy to get six hours per night. Yet somehow I do not feel really tired. Strange.

Going to eat left over chinese food from last sunday now. If I do not post again and it is weekend, call me an ambulance. It might not be as good as it still seems.

Weird discussion on tv. 4 youngsters who work in a supermarket beat up a lady who stole something in their supermarket. The first one to open the discussion is defending the staff because we don´t know what happened and that violence against thiefs isn´t a bad thing.

We´ve had two cases in the last year where staff used extreme violence against someone stealing something. First time the father of the queen paid the fine they got, the second time (same two actually) some member of parliament defended them. So some people get to use violence twice and become heroes...

Strange country I live in.

Never liked him as a politician. Wasn´t too pleased either when he became boss of the UNHCR, right wing politicians shouldn´t be looking after refugees. Now I read that in the two years that he has done his job, every single paycheck was sent back to the UN. He is doing this job for free. Cynics, and I have been accusing myself of being one, can easily point at his family capital (apparently he is number 262 on the list of the richest Dutchmen), which consists many millions, yet I have to admit I´m impressed. I´m not sure if I want to re-evaluate my p.o.v. over his political career as the longest serving after war prime minister of this country, but I have to give him respect for the work he is doing this moment.

Only 7th of October and already I have to use the heating for the first time since summer. It feels like a defeat.

I saw a documentary on Herbert Grönemeyer on German television tonight. I have been following him since 1984. From a distance, as in the Netherlands he is not very popular. Outside Germany you might know him as the journalist in the movie ´Das Boot`. I went to a concert in Gelsenkirchen last june. Only today I found out that in 1998 he lost a brother and his wife within a week. After a couple of years he has come back to music and made a great album again last year, Mensch. Grönemeyer is a real artist, he makes German, not the most subtle of languages, sound poetic. Forget Goethe, read his lyrics. His lyrics are always good, he dares to be political and critical, but in the meantime writes the best lovesongs. He is a unique talent and I hope we will get to enjoy his music for many more years. The next one is one of my favourites. Tanzen, from the album Sprunge, if I remember well from 1986.

Tanzen

was ansteht, grundsolide, grundgut.

Asylanten weisen wir vor unsere Schranken,
so verfolgt kann keiner sein.
Deutschland wird allzusehr als Paradies mißverstanden,
wir lassen keinen mehr 'rein.

Wir sind Christen, falten unsere Hände,
schließen dabei die Augen zu,
preisen Gott und die geistige Wende,
spielen Blinde Kuh,

was ansteht, grundsolide, grundgut.

made in Germany.

was ansteht, grundsolide, grundgut.
