Just read about this London firm who sacked a big part of his staff via a text message. Another good reason not to own a mobile phone! This wouldn't happen to me...
I am with you on that. I seem to be the only person I know (well, except for you!) who does not have a cellphone (as we call them). I just don't WANT to be reachable all the time. It seems that the Europeans are much more into SMS than we are- or is that German, I don't even know. Is the English word "text messaging?" In any case, that is a blessing in schools- the odd phone rings in class but at least they are not sitting there typing messages.
Officially, they are not allowed to use discmans and phones in class anyway, but it's bloody impossible to fight against them sometimes. I guess it's the same in your classes?
I hate phones in class. I confiscate them. Come and ask me at the end of class, if it happens more often, I might not give it back immediately. SMS is a big rage as well, you just know that whoever is setting leaning back a bit, quiet and staring at their legs is writing some message. Which is exactly the reason why they can't use cellphones for calculators either.
Discmans don't bother me as much. If they are working for themselves and nobody can hear the music, I allow them to do so. If I am explaining something, they should be stored away.
