This afternoon a team of students thought they had the unique opportunity to beat a team of overaged, overweight and overstressed men called their teachers in an indoor football game. They missed their chance. After scoring the first goal, they conceded 8 in the first half. In the second half the teachers were friendly and did not play up to scratch. The final result was a 14 - 5 victory for the old men. Yours truly scored the first two goals for his side and ended on 6 goals and will be walking around with a huge grin in school for a few days to come.

Enjoy the sweet smell of success for as long as possible!! 14-5 is a pretty convincing score.

Which could have been even higher had we tried or if we had not given some of our eager yet incompetent colleagues as much time on court as ourselves. The score was on the main noticeboard today, without any explanation, probably plenty students wondering what 14-5 means. A party on the 14th of May?

Reminds

That reminds me of the first time i played indoor 5 a-side, our team at the time was all young fit 17-19 year olds against a team of beer bellied old men with very little hair between them. We thought we'd win easily we lost 18-2 or some really crazy score like that.

I think i learnt my lesson after that one.

Exactly what happened yesterday. One of them was third in a MTV contest for street football players. Some others play at a reasonable level. They laughed when they saw us coming out of our cars. Some old men, others limping just for the show, but we all played football at a reasonable level at some point, they can become good players some day. We scored several textbook goals, they could just stand and watch.

I'm already awaiting news of a rematch if they are up to it of course. Experience counts for everything then? :)

We´re a bit dualistic on a rematch. We´ve got nothing to gain, so we might as well wait until all these students have left school. On the other hand, we would like to play them on a field, instead of indoors. A bit of a crowd, make it a specatacle.

Experience doesn´t count for everything, but it certainly helps. Some of my goals were easy tap ins, Shearer type goals, but I was there on the right moment and the attack preceding it was fantastic, even though we never played together before. I can only put that to experience.
