For the first time in ages I have been watching a whole game of football on tv. It must have been way over a year ago since the last time. Even though I love football, games on television bore me too much nowadays. Money has become so important, it affects the game. Therefore nowadays I prefer to play the game, read books about it, discuss the game in bars and on birthdays and play fantasy games. Tonight I made an exception, when my favorite team Ajax had to play a champions league qualifier. Perhaps I shouldn't have. They lost their home game 1-3. In two weeks time they have to go to Glascow to beat the Scottish champions by an even bigger margin. It doesn't look too well then. I guess that's me done for the season again.

which one would that be? The one with Cruijff, Neeskens and others, the generation Van Basten, Rijkaard, Bergkamp, Jonk and Van't Schip or even the young 'old' Ajax with Kluivert, Seedorf, Kanu and Litmanen?

I meant the young 'old' Ajax, the Van Gaal Ajax, but there are so many other great squads in Ajax' history, so many better ones than the one they have now.
But I really miss the old, winning Ajax, playing dominating, attractive soccer, the old Ajax, feared by the rest of the Netherlands and Europe, the old Ajax, with more than two(!) dutch players on the field. :(

You mean the Ajax that played attacking football, when opponents were frightened to enter De Meer, when it was a club, not a company, when you could just buy a ticket for a match and that's it, instead of having to buy a club card, a parking ticket, a card with a local fake currency and an entrance ticket. A team that got wet when it rained, a team that had players who played there since they wore diapers, who had an accent that was retraced to Betondorp and skills that the rest of the world lacked.

The team that is known until the tiniest villages of El Salvador and Haiti, that produced the best player ever and several major stars after that.

What happened?
