West Virginia, mountain mama

Just been watching another episode of Ruby Wax and her series on the United States. Even though Ruby is originally American, she's been in the UK for quite a while now and makes programmes for the BBC. In this one she went to find some typical American things and ended up in a small mountain village in West Virginia. At first it is very funny to hear some locals talk about the ex-mayor who is an ex-con, about nearly everybody owning weapons and husbands in jail. It takes a bit to find out the real town, but soon enough we see religious idiots who handle snakes, because the lord says so in the bible. The really scary thing is that they really believe in the lord and don't even call out a doctor when they get bitten by a snake. A woman was telling about her husband dying exactly 13 hours after he was bitten. Other men were proudly telling about the number of times they have been bitten, 133 being the record I guess. Almost everybody was missing digits or whole fingers. It wasn't a funny episode anymore. People like this scare me. An inbred village full of religious idiots. What a world.
