Sitting on the top deck on day 3 of our Amazon trip, I see them coming. They are heading for a collision. The very last moment they turn and try to hold on to our boat using a metal stick. They tie their boat to ours and start selling apples, shrimps and palm hearts. A few miles downstream they unhook again and have to peddle back home. They have earned enough for their family today.

Sorry, don't know Xochimilco so I can't judge. Should it be on my list?

Oh sorry! I posted that without thinking you might not know the place.

Xochimilco is a lake where you get tiny boats all over. You can rent one of them, and the owner will row around the lake. Inside the boat there is a small table and some stools where you can seat, eat, and just have a good time. Every now and then a boat will row by carrying certain goods, if you want to buy some of their food they will hook their boat to yours and prepare it for you.

No need to feel sorry, I have travelled a lot, but there are still plenty of places I don't know. I don't expect others to know where I have been and where not.

Where is the lake Xochimilco?

(Looks crowded but that's the dock, once the lake expands it looks better)

Nice journal Gerbie! Ben eveneens naar je NL-talige blog gegaan, vond de 'stereotype' Backbackers een erg leuk stukje! Herkenbaar ook. Mooie foto's. I'll be back.
