Downloading
Oct. 8th, 2005 07:12 pmWinMx has problems, I removed it, can't find a free version anymore. KazaaLite does not connect, even after reinstalling, BearShare wants to install some programme that adds ads, but dare to say it is not annoying.
Which program should I use to download music then?

Here's a link to download directly the latest version:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/emule/eMule0.46c_Installer.exe
And I second Soulseek (or Slsk as it's sometimes called. Beware of imitations - there are some out there). This one is really excellent for getting hard-to-find music. Like eMule, it is free of spy- and adware. Here's the homepage:

Here's a link to download directly the latest stable version:

With these two, you really don't need anything else.
Oh, if you're using a firewall, you will have to configure it to be able to connect to Soulseek. This is for your own security and privacy's sake. Soulseek needs port 2234 open for TCP traffic. Hopefully no further explanation is needed, but if you need help, you can find it on the Soulseek forums:
http://forums.slsknet.org/ipb/
By the way, Kazaa is well known for the spyware included in the installation of the program. Apparently, it can be removed. So, if you must use it (maybe the reason it doesn't connect is to do with your firewall - see the Soulseek tip above), here's a tool to remove Kazaa's spyware:

(or just search Google for kazaa spyware).
Good luck fella.
