Don't go to the capital, Antigua is much nicer. Many travellers told me the same story. But after a few days in Antigua I was bored stiff, hated all the foreigners there and left for Guatemala city. At itself not a nice city, the others were right. But sunday afternoon in the Parque Central made up for the lack of beauty. People came from everywhere and enjoyed their time off. The contrast were great. At one point some man surrounded by dozens of other men is trying to sell some ointment that helps men perform (nudge nudge), while a few meters away some other is telling us that God is the allmighty, bible in his hand. Children run around, youngsters look around and flirt, descendants from the Maya indians sell their arts and crafts and a band plays gospels. Hours I spent in that park, every second of it I enjoyed.
