Hi LJ-Friends,

This newsletter went to all the people who have been reading my 40 travel stories in the past year and a half. I know several of you have been on my friends-list for quite a while already. So when I ask my friends to mail me the answers below here, the same question goes out to you. Put them in the comments section, or if you don't want just anybody to read it, mail them to me. It would be well appreciated.

Gerbie on tour 43

Hello everybody. Home for a month now, I am busy with getting my pictures on a website, so you can see where I have been, after having read about it. In the meantime I am trying to get up to date again. I have visited some friends, mailed a bit with a few others, but realised that I'm still not up to scratch. I have missed a lot during my journey. The main news stories came to me, I have read local newspapers whenever I could. Other things were mailed to me, but there is still plenty missing. Traveling is a selfish trade. I was living for my journey, there wasn't much more at that moment. Now that I am back here again, I'd like to know everything I have missed. So I thought it might be a good idea to ask everybody a few questions. Unfortunately it would be impossible to write different mails to 160 people, so I am asking a few general questions. Please mail me with your answers. I am curious, I want to know everything. Some of you have been mailing me on a regular basis, then again from some of you I haven't got a clue what has happened since November 1999. This is not about Gerbie, like nearly all these newsletters have been, this is about you. So if I could ask a bit of your time, please answer the following questions.

1. What is the most important thing that happened in the world during my journey (Basically since the beginning of this millenium)?

2. What is the most important thing that happened in your country in the same period?

3. What happened in your life in the last year and a half?

4. Tell me about your last (or next) journey/travels/vacation/holiday?

5. Who will you be voting for in the next election?

Just five questions, you can answer as short or long as you'd like. 5 short answers are welcome, if you want to turn them into five short essays do feel free. If someone else has read my newsletters as well, even though they are not on my mailing list, ask them as well. I'd love to see everybody's answers the coming weeks.

In the meantime I'll finish the new website and will let you all know where you can see my pictures and read my stories on the web. Thanx for reading Gerbie on tour!

Gerben

1. What is the most important thing that happened in the world during my journey (Basically since the beginning of this millenium)?

Well, I am concerned with what is going on in Israel right now. I think that the whole Palestinean/Jew feelings have been bottled up for so long that violence is REALLY spilling over now. I think that this seek and kill tactic that Israel has against Palestinians is bullshit. =( When the second in command of the PLO was assasinated even though they couldn't PROVE he was up to any thing, that was pushing it to say the least. Even the stupid USA government condemned that act. Israel was supposed to be a safe haven for the Jews after the Halocaust. I think they are starting to move more towards treating the Palestineans as they were treated in WWII Germany.

2. What is the most important thing that happened in your country in the same period?
*pah* Well I found out just how stupid my country is when Damn George W. Bush is in the white house. I am very concerned about this because he doesn't know what he is doing. Or maybe he does and is just playing stupid to carry out some conservative scary plans.

3. What happened in your life in the last year and a half?
Broke up with Fernando. Almost went into cardiac arrest from the eating disorder. Started dating Greg. Fell on my ass with the eating disorder again. Went to San Francisco. Downward spiral of eating disorder. Upward climb. Downward spiral. Then I broke up with Greg on Monday =(

4. Tell me about your last (or next) journey/travels/vacation/holiday?
I went to San Francisco with Greg. It was so romantic and dreamlike. I felt so in love. So safe. So happy. The fact that we are now broken up tears me up. I want to be happy when I remember my trip to San Francisco, but now it is tinged with sadness.

5. Who will you be voting for in the next election?
Hmmmm. Well I hope that we will have better candidates. Maybe the Bush presidency will piss off enough people to have new faces run. However, I do like Bill Bradley and I do like Ralph Nader. Hopefully the Green Party will gain numbers. The USA needs more political parties that have clout. The Democrats and Republicans have made a mess of things.

Thanx. The first to react, the only one for a long time, in the end one out of 2 who made an effort. Well appreciated!

Questions!

1. What is the most important thing that happened in the world during my journey (Basically since the beginning of this millenium)?

In the world? That's a pretty tough question. European countries are starting to see more of the Euro. The violence in the Middle East continues. Beyond that, I am woefully unaware of world events.

2. What is the most important thing that happened in your country in the same period?

The President pushed his tax cut package through the legislature, and now it appears the country doesn't have as much money as was once thought. Some people who need it most (like my sister-in-law and her family) didn't get any relief, but others got too much and now we have to dip into our reserve funds.

3. What happened in your life in the last year and a half?

My wife is having a baby in December, and we bought a house this past January.

4. Tell me about your last (or next) journey/travels/vacation/holiday?

We just got back from a holiday weekend in Buhl, which is where my wife's family lives. We went to the Twin Falls County Fair. If you've never been to an American county or state fair, you are missing out on a wonderful experience.

5. Who will you be voting for in the next election?

Certainly not that clown George W. Bush. But he won't be up for re-election until 2004. Until then, we have local elections in November, but I don't know any of the candidates. It's an off-year election, so there are no significant state or federal offices on the ballot.
