To see a nice stage in the mountains during the Tour de France, one has to arrive well in time. Some people camp for days to get the best view. Campers have become very popular the last decade.

Argh. [Chokes.] That's my idea of hell.

Watching the Tour de France or having to survive in between dozens of campervans?

The latter. I've had "banning caravans" listed as an interest ever since I came to LiveJournal.

Interesting. Is there any rational explanation for this caravan-phobia? And do you rate campervans in the same category as caravans?

Caravans, campervans, RVs. Whatever the grade. If you're going on holiday, live a little: don't take your home with you.

No offence if you're a caravan/campervan/RV enthusiast.

Nope, certainly not an enthusiast. Avid traveller yes. What is an RV?

An RV (road vehicle) would be one of these:

So what made you start your crusade?

I just think they're the ugliest things I've ever seen. I don't know if they're universal, but in England we have caravan parks, where people either live in caravans or rent them, and I think they are the terrible eyesores whenever I see them.

Plus, people have a tendency to park them in their driveways, which irritates me as well. I feel like they're polluting the atmosphere without actually doing so. Selfish, I know, but that's how it is for me.

Then again, there is plenty of ugly things. People live in council estates that not even Al Quada would drop a bomb on. People work in office buildings where a lot of airplanes could land into and nobody would miss them.

I'm still not convinced why they are the ugliest things invented (though I do agree they are ugly).

I dwelled on their appearance too much. It's more their function than what they look like.

Okay, I understand. It's the combination of ugliness and the 'refuse to adapt' travellers that triggers a hate. Fair enough.
