There have been talks, under the Clinton adminstration after previous terrorist attacks, when they already suspected Bin Laden to be in Afghanistan, being harbored by the Taliban regime. The cold war is over, politics have changed in the world, the CIA has done very stupid things (as well as the Russians) and indeed America has to pay for these mistakes now, this time in the form of a Taliban regime. That they funded them in a completely different world situation, is no reason not to attack them now. There is direct evidence that the Bin Laden organisation is involved, the Taliban protects Bin Laden and his terrorist camps, ergo the Taliban is directly involved in the brutal attacks. No more hiding behind, 'we didn't do it' and protect the ones who did.
And why should they help the USA. What has the USA done for them after the cold war? At least Bin Laden has some sort of (weird, I admit) honesty: he just tells blatantly what his views are and acts upon them. The USA have been worse than Christian Democrat Politicians in the Netherlands: today it is this, tomorrow black happens to be white again. They piss me off more than ever. I will never say they deserve what they got, but they had something coming.
